Florence
Because I was brought up in a Christian home and attended church every week I took it for granted that I was a Christian, maybe I wasn’t as devout as some others in the church but nevertheless I took it for granted I was a Christian. I was very familiar with the Gospel story, but I hardly opened my bible and rarely said my prayers.

My life went on quite smoothly I married a deacon of the church and had three children; I was quite content for I believed God was good to me.

One day out of the blue, with no warning my husband told me that he didn’t love me any more- my whole world collapsed! I felt I was going down into the deepest pit from which there was no escape. I was in complete shock, I couldn’t speak. My husband offered no explanation, no comfort and no kind word. I was faced with a wall of silence. (That silence lasted for two and a half years until he finally left us.)

I had nowhere to go, no one to speak to, too ashamed to tell my parents. I needed help for I didn’t know where to look. Then I remembered my Bible, the Bible which was so sadly neglected and hardly read. The one thing I do remember is that I knew God’s hand had come down upon me. I searched the scripture for comfort and help and read of the love and compassion God has for His people. But the very first thing that was revealed to me was that I was a great sinner! Whether I had sinned a little or sinned greatly I had still broken the Law of God and no sinner can enter heaven. Because God is Just and Righteous He will not look upon sin. The Word of God tells us that all men are sinners.
“All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God” Romans ch 3 v23.
When we sin there is a price to pay, sin must be punished. God will not accept our good deeds no matter how many good deeds we do and we cannot earn our way into heaven.
God says “No”! There is only one way into heaven.” “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” these are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ while He was on earth.

God showed to me in His Word of His great plan for the human race. As all men are sinners from the day they were born, they cannot atone for their own sins and there was only one answer. God, who was without sin had to be our substitute and lay down His own life and be made a sacrifice in our place to take away the sins of the world.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John ch3 v16.

Because God loves us so much He ordained that His only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ was to be born into this world as a baby: to grow into a man and to be put to death upon a cruel cross- yet he was without sin! The Perfect Substitute; The Prefect sacrifice; The Perfect Man. Our sins deserve death but He took our place, the only sacrifice that God would accept.

The Bible revealed to me all these things and much, much more, I went before the Lord repenting of my sins, praying that God would forgive me and take my sins away and the Lord heard my cry and I knew that He had accepted me. I knew I had been saved for ever.
“He that believeth in me hath everlasting Life” John ch 6 v 47.

The Lord put His spirit within me and I became a different person, (for only God can change a person), He gave me peace and joy I had never known before. I did nothing; I gave nothing; I just accepted His great gift which was free, without price and which is available to all who will believe it.
“The gift of God is eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans ch 6 v23.

These are only some of the things that God revealed to me through His word and I praise Him for the day that my world fell apart! I now have the greatest treasure in all the world and I wouldn’t exchange it for anything I had before or anything this world can offer.

I have been blessed abundantly with my three children and six grandchildren- A wonderful Saviour is Jesus my Lord and my cup runneth over.

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Psalm ch 40 v 2-3.
