Anna
I was brought up in a Christian home and have had Bible teaching from a very young age, The meaning of the term ‘Christian’ did not even cross my mind as I thought that it was the ‘norm’ to go to church. It was almost a routine for me, I went to church and Sunday school weekly, I prayed before meals and prayed before bedtimes but it wasn’t until I was nine years old that I began to listen properly to the sermons and think about what was being said, I also realised that doing all these things, did not make me a Christian.

At around 9 years of age I remember hearing a sermon by Sydney Elliot, the three points I remember him saying were these, you have to believe that Jesus died on the cross to forgive your sins, you have to repent of your sin and commit your life to Him. This message didn’t leave me all day and it got me thinking, that there was more to being a Christian than just going to church, and when I was to leave this world, where would I go? Would I go to heaven?

I remember sitting on my bed that night and praying a simple prayer to the Lord asking Him to come into my life and be my personal saviour.

I can honestly say that there was no dramatic change in my life, as I was nine years old I feel that as I have grown up my conversion has been a gradual one. It was when I attended my first Evangelical Movement of Wales camp at the age of eleven that the Lord really spoke to me again and challenged me, it was then that I realised the importance of my commitment and it was then that I recommitted my life to God. I had received a passion to serve the Lord and to do His work; it was then that I wanted to live the way He wanted me to.

It hasn’t been easy over the years, but I thank the Lord for giving me Christian friends in school to encourage me and to help share the gospel. In May 2006 I got baptised, It was only through the strength of the Lord that I made that stand, as I wanted to show my friends and my family that I was a child of God and that I was willing to live my life for Him. Even though at times it will be hard, I believe that I can trust the Lord in anything, as He has a plan for my life; He has promised in the scriptures that He will guide me and direct my paths. Being a Christian has given me a hope for the future as I have that assurance as to where I’m going when I leave this world and that is to be with Him in heaven.
